Trump tells G7 Iran ‘on verge of surrender’

According to Axios, US president Donald Trump told G7 leaders that Iran is ‘on the verge of capitulation’. He made the remark during a virtual meeting on Wednesday, referring to the results of the US military operation called ‘Epic Fury’.

According to three G7 officials familiar with the conversation, Trump assured allies that the operation had eliminated the threat Iran posed to the region and the wider world.

The US president used strong language. He said he had ‘removed the cancer that threatened us all’. At the same time, he suggested chaos reigns within Iran’s leadership. In his words, ‘no one knows who the leader is’, so it is not even clear who could formally announce a surrender.

On Friday, however, Trump again addressed Iranian leaders, describing them in vulgar terms. The conflict in the Middle East continues in the form of intense drone and missile attacks across the region.
