Formula 1 faces cancellation in Bahrain and KSA
The conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran is beginning to affect sporting events in the Middle East. According to Reuters, it is increasingly likely that the Formula 1 races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia scheduled for next month will be cancelled.
Organisers are facing logistical challenges and security risks because of rising tensions in the region.
Sources within Formula 1 have indicated that an official announcement could come soon as the deadline for transporting technical equipment and race cars to Bahrain approaches. The deadline for logistical preparations for the races is March 20.
The tense situation has also caused widespread disruption to air travel. Thousands of flights have been cancelled at some of the busiest transit hubs, complicating travel for both sports teams and fans. The conflict in the Middle East is therefore beginning to affect the international sporting calendar as well.
