Car crashes into schoolchildren in Switzerland, one dead
A fatal accident in the Swiss mountain resort of Sedrun has claimed the life of a 47-year-old guide accompanying a group of schoolchildren. According to police, the group was struck by the car of an 87-year-old driver who is believed to have mistaken the accelerator for the brake.
According to KRZBB, the accident occurred on Friday during a school trip involving Swiss pupils. One woman died at the scene, two 13-year-old girls suffered severe to critical injuries, and a boy was treated as an outpatient.
Rescuers described the aftermath as extremely serious, with one of the girls reportedly sustaining an open fracture to her leg.
Police in the canton of Graubünden are working on the assumption that the incident was caused by a fatal error by the elderly driver. At the same time, investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances of the case.
