Iran: the Strait of Hormuz is open, but not to enemy ships

The Strait of Hormuz remains open to shipping, but Iran is indicating restrictions on vessels associated with its enemies. Iran's representative to the International Maritime Organization, Ali Mousavi, said other ships can pass through by agreement with Tehran.

The situation comes during a conflict between the US, Israel and Iran that is already affecting global shipping.

The key strait, through which about a fifth of the world's oil and gas supplies flow, is currently used less because of fears of attacks.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has threatened to crack down on Iran if full passage is not ensured. Tehran, however, says diplomacy remains a priority, although it also blames the US and Israel for the current escalation.
