Israel ordered to destroy bridges in Lebanon, aims to stop Hezbollah

The Israeli defence minister ordered the army to destroy all bridges over the Litani River in southern Lebanon and to accelerate the demolition of houses in border areas. The aim, according to Israel, is to restrict the movement of Hezbollah militants and create a security zone along the border.

The decision comes after an escalation of the conflict in which Israeli soldiers and civilians have already been killed in an attack from Lebanese territory. At the same time, Israel is continuing its intensive bombing and ground operations to prevent attacks in the north of the country.

However, the move has drawn criticism as international law restricts attacks on civilian infrastructure and the UN has warned of the consequences for civilians. V

Lebanon, the conflict has left more than a thousand dead and hundreds of thousands displaced. France and other actors are calling for a diplomatic solution.
