Vučić warns Third World War may already have begun

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić warned in an interview with Berliner Zeitung that current conflicts could lead to wider global tensions. ‘Wars tend to chain themselves,’ he said, adding that if Iran, for example, can confront the United States despite a significant military disadvantage, it sends a signal to other countries that they too can stand up to stronger powers.

In the war between Russia and Ukraine, Vučić sees no quick resolution. While Russia may not win the conflict, it is also unlikely to lose it, as nuclear powers cannot be defeated militarily.

The president believes a new geopolitical reconfiguration is under way in the Middle East. The Gulf states, North Africa and major players such as China are trying to buy time and are preparing for larger conflicts, he said.

‘Therefore, unfortunately, I do not consider it impossible that tactical nuclear weapons will eventually be used in such conflicts,’ he noted.

Vučić stressed that tensions are rising over access to strategic resources such as oil, gas and precious metals and that new power blocs are forming, developments he said resemble the period before the First and Second World Wars.

He warned the Third World War may already have begun – but is not yet being officially acknowledged.
