Ukraine and US yet to agree on security guarantees

Ukraine and the United States do not yet have an agreement on security guarantees, although Kyiv has long seen them as a key element of future stability.

After talks with the negotiating team, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the document is not yet finalised, although he had described it as practically ready at the beginning of the year. The issue was also discussed at a recent meeting of Ukrainian and US officials in Florida.

Kyiv is seeking clear commitments from the US and its allies that would guarantee assistance in the event of another Russian attack after the war ends. According to Zelenskyy, security guarantees are essential to any lasting resolution of the conflict.

At the same time, he warned that global tensions, particularly in the context of the war against Iran, complicate the situation and may strengthen Russia’s position. The Ukrainian president therefore proposed broader international negotiations to address several conflicts at the same time.
