Trump to relax emissions rules to cut petrol prices
The Trump administration plans to temporarily relax federal rules on summer gasoline blends to ease rising fuel prices driven by the war with Iran.
The measure would allow refiners and retailers to continue using cheaper fuel while permitting the sale of higher-ethanol blends (E15) during the summer, when regulations are usually stricter.
Analysts say the move could lower petrol prices by a few cents per gallon and offer some relief to consumers and companies facing tight supplies. The average price of petrol in the US has recently climbed above $3.97 a gallon, a significant increase since the start of the year.
Summer blends with lower volatility are typically used to limit air pollution.
