Ukrainian drone crashed into a power plant in Estonia
Two Ukrainian military drones entered the airspace of Estonia and Latvia on Wednesday morning after flying over Russia. One of them hit a power plant chimney in Estonia, while the other crashed on Latvian territory.
According to officials from both countries, the drones were likely part of a broader Ukrainian attack on Russian targets. The incidents occurred shortly after Lithuania reported another stray Ukrainian drone that fell into a lake on Monday.
The drones appeared at a time when Ukrainian strikes targeted Russian oil facilities in the ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga on the Baltic Sea. These are key export hubs near Estonia and Finland. In recent weeks, Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian oil infrastructure in an effort to weaken Russia’s war economy.
The Estonian government said the strike on the Auvere power plant, located about two kilometers from the Russian border, caused no injuries or damage. Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stressed that the drone was not aimed at Estonia.
Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics confirmed that the crashed drone was Ukrainian. Latvian authorities also reported another drone that briefly entered their airspace via Belarus.
