Israeli strike kills three journalists, military says

An Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon has killed three journalists, prompting strong reactions from Lebanese officials and international organisations. The victims include reporter Ali Shaib, journalist Fatima Ftouni and cameraman Mohammed Ftouni. According to local media, their vehicle was hit by a missile.

The Israeli military said Shaib had been identified as a member of Hezbollah’s intelligence unit and was the intended target. It did not comment on the other casualties or provide supporting evidence. Hezbollah rejected the claims as unfounded.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack as a violation of international law and said journalists must be protected during conflicts. Reporters Without Borders also warned that media safety in the region is deteriorating. The incident comes amid a broader escalation of violence in which several journalists have been killed in Lebanon and neighbouring areas since late February.
