Vance tops Rubio among conservatives
Vice President JD Vance secured a notable result at this year’s CPAC conference. In a poll of attendees, he received 53 per cent of the vote, clearly outpacing Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was backed by 35 per cent of respondents.
According to the available data, the result reflects sentiment rather than offering a reliable prediction of the next nomination.
CPAC has long been associated with the conservative wing of the Republican Party, and its polls therefore reflect the preferences of Donald Trump’s staunchest supporters. It is within that group that a new generation of leaders now appears to be taking shape.
At the same time, similar polls in the past have not proved an accurate indicator of the final outcome of the primaries. Even so, they offer a sense of where political momentum within the MAGA movement is shifting. As Trump can no longer run again, the contest over his political succession is gradually intensifying.
