Report warns of rising attacks on Christians in India
Attacks on Christians in India are continuing to rise, according to available data, Idea.de reports.
In its annual report, the country’s Evangelical Alliance said it documented 747 cases of violence, intimidation, discrimination or social pressure in 2025, roughly 100 more than the previous year.
The incidents include threats, false accusations, arrests, physical assaults, disruption of worship, vandalism and arson. However, the alliance warned the true scale may be higher, as some victims do not report cases due to fear, social pressure or limited access to justice.
Its leaders described a long-standing pattern of hostility towards Christian communities and criticised what they see as insufficient action by the authorities.
The issue has also drawn renewed attention as the rise in attacks has been linked by critics to the period of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule. According to the Open Doors ranking, India is 12th worldwide in terms of the persecution of Christians.
