Trump attends Supreme Court hearing for the first time
US President Donald Trump has made history as the first sitting US president to appear in person at a Supreme Court hearing.
At issue is his controversial directive to restrict automatic citizenship based on place of birth, a key element of his immigration policy. He remained in the courtroom for about an hour and a half, but left before the opposing side began its arguments.
During the more than two-hour hearing, the justices indicated scepticism about the proposal.
A lower court has already blocked the measure, and critics have called it unconstitutional.
After returning to the White House, he again criticised both the citizenship system and the court itself, with which he has had strained relations, particularly following the ruling against his tariffs. The Supreme Court’s verdict is expected by the end of June.
