Truth obscured by misinformation and conflict, Pope says
During the Regina Caeli prayer on Easter Monday, Pope Leo XIV called on Christians to spread the Gospel in a world marked by misinformation, conflict and social problems.
According to Vatican News, he pointed to the contrast between two interpretations of the empty tomb – the women’s testimony of Jesus’ resurrection and the guards’ claim that the body was stolen.
The contradiction, he said, persists today, when the truth is often obscured by ‘fake news’, lies and unsubstantiated accusations.
He stressed that Christians should not hesitate to proclaim the truth, even when communication is difficult. He recalled Jesus’ call not to be afraid and to share the news of the resurrection.
The Pope also drew attention to the suffering of people around the world – victims of war, persecuted Christians and children without access to education. He expressed his conviction that proclaiming the Easter message brings hope, which is often suppressed by violence. Where the Gospel is lived and proclaimed, it brings light and meaning even in difficult situations.
He concluded by remembering Pope Francis, who died on Easter Monday last year, and invited the faithful to pray.
