EU welcomes ceasefire, Kallas warns of unresolved conflict
The European Union has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran brokered by Pakistan, Euractiv reports.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas described it as an important step towards calming the situation after weeks of tension, but warned that the root causes of the conflict remain unresolved.
According to the available statements, the arrangement would last two weeks and include the resumption of traffic in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Kallas said the ceasefire creates space for a halt to attacks and the opening of diplomatic negotiations. The EU stands ready to support further talks and is working with partners in the region.
Pakistan played a key role in the agreement, for which European officials expressed their gratitude. At the same time, Kallas announced talks in Saudi Arabia aimed at strengthening diplomatic efforts towards a lasting solution to the conflict.
