Trump Urges Hungarians to Vote for Orban
A few days before the Hungarian parliamentary elections, US President Donald Trump once again publicly endorsed Prime Minister Viktor Orban and directly urged voters to cast their ballots for him.
On the Truth Social network, he described him as a strong leader, a fighter and a winner who, in his view, is protecting the country, strengthening the economy and cracking down on illegal migration. He also said relations between the US and Hungary had reached a new level during their respective governments and had produced concrete results.
Trump has endorsed Orban several times during the campaign. US Vice President JD Vance, who visited Hungary this week, made similar comments. He praised the country’s security policy, border protection, energy stability and emphasis on family values. At the same time, however, he criticized "Brussels bureaucrats" over migration and energy prices.
The opposition rejected the moves as unacceptable interference in domestic politics. Orban, who has led the country for 16 years, faces a strong challenge in Sunday’s elections from Peter Magyar and his TISZA party, which is slightly ahead in the polls.
