Zelensky Suggests Russia Extend Easter Truce
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested that Russia extend the Easter truce beyond the holiday, stressing that Easter should be a time of peace and security. Kyiv has already submitted the proposal to Moscow and is awaiting a response.
He warned that if Russia continues the war, it will send a clear signal to the international community, particularly the US. Ukraine, he said, would respond “symmetrically”.
The ceasefire was initially proposed by the Kremlin and began on Saturday afternoon, with a planned end on Sunday evening.
However, Moscow has indicated that it will not suspend combat operations unless Kyiv accepts its terms, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the Donbas. At the same time, the Ukrainian military says Russian troops have violated the ceasefire hundreds of times, raising doubts about compliance.
