Russia and Ukraine Trade Blame Over Easter Ceasefire

Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of violating the Easter ceasefire declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin for 32 hours during the Orthodox holiday.

Russia’s defence ministry said Ukrainian forces were continuing attacks, while Russian troops were observing the ceasefire. It cited a drone strike in the Kursk region in which civilians, including a child, were reportedly injured.

These claims could not be independently verified. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Kyiv would act in accordance with the ceasefire, although Moscow has previously rejected proposals for a cessation of hostilities.

The ceasefire entered into force on Saturday afternoon and was due to last until Sunday evening.
