Germany Convenes Talks on Aviation Fuel Supplies

The German Ministries of Economic Affairs and Transport have invited representatives of the aviation industry for talks on aviation fuel supply in response to the disruption of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil shipments.

A spokesman for the economy ministry said on Saturday that the government was taking the industry's concerns seriously, but there was no threat of a shortage of aviation fuel for the time being. Representatives of fuel traders, airports and airlines are due to meet with the ministry on Monday.

Finance ministry chief Lars Klingbeil told Der Spiegel magazine that precautionary measures needed to be taken to secure supplies. European airlines have already this week called on the European Union to take extraordinary steps, including monitoring fuel stocks in the aftermath of the war with Iran.

Germany has contributed to the international release of strategic oil reserves. According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, its share was 4.9 per cent, or 2.647 million tonnes. The release also included 50 thousand tonnes of aviation fuel.
