Xpeng Wants to Put Flying Cars on the Road by 2027

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng plans to begin large-scale production of flying cars as early as 2026, with customer deliveries expected in 2027, according to company president Brian Gu.

Interest in the vehicles is strong, with more than 7,000 orders already recorded, primarily from the domestic market. Testing of Xpeng's robotaxi is currently underway in Guangzhou, and the company expects to produce hundreds to thousands of the vehicles in the coming months.

Xpeng is also deepening its partnership with Germany's Volkswagen, with both sides identifying room for further joint projects. The firm additionally plans to launch production of humanoid robots by the end of 2026, initially for customer service applications, and expects the robotics segment to eventually surpass its automotive business in scale.

The company is accelerating its international expansion and believes that within a decade more than half of its revenue will come from outside China.
