Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire Extended by Three Weeks

The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has been extended by three weeks following negotiations at the White House. President Trump said after meeting ambassadors from both countries that there was a "great chance" of reaching a peace deal later this year.

The talks took place without Hezbollah, Lebanon's main armed force and a central party to the conflict, which continues to insist on its right to armed resistance.

Conditions in southern Lebanon remain tense. Israeli attacks and Hezbollah operations are ongoing despite the truce, with recent fighting claiming further casualties, including a journalist. Israel continues to maintain a buffer zone on Lebanese territory.

Lebanon is demanding the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the resolution of border disputes. Israel, for its part, is pressing for the further weakening of Hezbollah. Washington has pledged support to Beirut but has yet to provide details.
