German Trans Extremist Compares Pilsen Prison to Alcatraz

German extremist Marla-Svenja Liebich, detained in the Czech Republic on the basis of a European arrest warrant, is complaining about conditions in Pilsen prison.

Liebich, previously known as Sven Liebich, legally changed his name and registered gender under Germany’s Self-Determination Act, a step that has drawn attention because it also affected the conditions of his detention.

In letters published by his team on X, he described the facility as “Alcatraz” and criticized poor hygiene, a lack of privacy and the requirement to wear a respirator, according to Echo24.

Liebich was convicted in Germany of incitement to hatred and was due to begin serving a prison sentence, but avoided detention by fleeing the country.

He is now awaiting a decision on extradition to Germany after being arrested near the town of Aš.

Germany’s Self-Determination Act, which came into force in 2024, allows adults to change their legal gender and first name through a simple administrative procedure without requiring medical assessments or court approval.
