Trump Rebukes Merz Over Remarks on Iran Conflict

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over his remarks on the war with Iran, accusing him of misunderstanding the threat posed by Tehran.

During a visit to a secondary school in the city of Marsberg on Monday, Merz commented on the stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran and said Tehran was humiliating Washington.

“The Iranians are obviously negotiating very skillfully – or maybe not negotiating at all. The whole nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership”, the German chancellor said.

Merz also said he believed the United States had no clear exit strategy for a war against Iran and warned that the conflict was having a direct impact on Germany’s economy.

Trump responded on Truth Social, claiming that Merz was effectively accepting the possibility of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons.

“The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about!” Trump wrote.

He added that if Iran acquired nuclear weapons, “the whole World would be held hostage” and defended his own approach, saying he was addressing the issue now when other leaders should have acted long ago.
