Ukraine Prepares Arms Exports as Defense Industry Expands
Ukraine is preparing to begin exporting weapons as its defense industry is now producing more than the country’s armed forces can use. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in some sectors, overcapacity has reached as much as 50%, according to DPA.
He stressed, however, that supplying the Ukrainian military remains the priority and that exports would apply only to surplus production.
Kyiv is already in talks with partners in Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus, with so-called drone deals expected to play a central role.
A proposal for defense cooperation with the United States is also under discussion. Potential exports could include drones, air defense systems and other weapons, while also helping to strengthen Ukraine’s financing.
Zelensky said the terms must be favorable for Ukraine and that the proceeds should be reinvested in defense.
