Poland Ready to Host US Troops Pulled from Germany

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has said Poland is ready to accept US troops withdrawn from Germany, telling Politico the country has the necessary infrastructure in place and is prepared to negotiate with President Donald Trump's administration to strengthen the US military presence on NATO's eastern flank.

The remarks come as the Pentagon prepares to relocate some 5,000 US troops from Germany, with Trump hinting at the possibility of further reductions. Nawrocki confirmed during NATO exercises in Lithuania that he would personally lobby for the transfer of some forces to Poland.

The issue has triggered an internal political dispute between the president and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Tusk has warned that Poland should not "poach" troops from allies, while also expressing support for a stronger US presence in the country and stressing the need to preserve European unity.

Nawrocki's allies in the opposition have since criticized Tusk for allegedly prioritizing relations with Berlin over Poland's security interests. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki, negotiations between Warsaw and Washington are already under way at both military and diplomatic levels.

Poland currently hosts about 10,000 US troops, while around 36,000 are stationed in Germany.
