Hungary Rules Out Troops for Ukraine
Istvan Kapitany, Hungary’s nominee for economy and energy minister, has said that energy diversification is in the country’s interest and that decisions on oil imports should not be driven by politics.
Speaking at a parliamentary hearing, Kapitany added that the economy would benefit from a stronger forint as well as from renewed confidence among investors and retailers.
Foreign minister-designate Anita Orban made similar remarks, saying the priority of Hungary’s foreign policy is to rebuild trust in the country.
She also said Hungary supports peace in Ukraine but will not send troops or weapons. The government aims to restore relations with Berlin, Warsaw, Paris, Rome and other European capitals.
