EU Sanctions Russians over Deportation of Ukrainian Children
The European Union has imposed sanctions on 16 individuals and seven entities in Russia for the systematic illegal deportation of Ukrainian children, the EU Council confirmed on Monday.
Russia is estimated to have deported and forcibly relocated nearly 20,500 Ukrainian children since the start of the war. The EU Council said the acts constitute serious violations of international law, aimed at erasing Ukrainian identity and undermining future generations.
Those listed include federal institutions linked to the Russian Ministry of Education, officials and politicians from Russian-occupied territories, and leaders of youth camps and military-patriotic organizations.
The sanctions include an asset freeze, prohibiting EU citizens and companies from providing funds or economic resources to those listed. Individuals on the list also face a travel ban to EU member states.
