Suspect in Trump Assassination Attempt Pleads Not Guilty

Cole Allen, accused of attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump, pleaded not guilty to all charges at an opening hearing on Monday, according to US media reports.

Allen, 31, did not appear in court. His defense attorney entered the plea on his behalf. Allen faces charges of attempted assassination of the president, assaulting a federal agent and violating gun laws.

According to investigators, Allen fired a shotgun at a Secret Service officer before storming a security checkpoint. The attack allegedly took place during the White House Correspondents' Association dinner attended by Trump and members of his administration.

Authorities say the attack was stopped before the assailant could reach the president or other protected individuals. The incident has raised fresh questions about the security of senior officials at public events.

Allen remains in custody.
