Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Targeted Iran-Backed Militias in Iraq

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait launched covert strikes against Iran-backed Shiite militias in Iraq during the Iran war, according to security sources.

Saudi fighter jets struck militia targets near the kingdom’s northern border with Iraq, from where drone and missile attacks on Gulf states were allegedly being launched.

Iraqi sources also said rockets were fired from Kuwaiti territory at bases used by Kataib Hezbollah in southern Iraq. It remains unclear whether the strikes were carried out by the Kuwaiti military or by US forces based in the country.

Regional tensions escalated after the joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran in February. The conflict later widened into a broader regional confrontation that also affected Iraq and Gulf states.

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait acted after repeated attacks by Tehran-backed militias, according to the sources.
