Iran's Araghchi: No Trust in US, No Peace Without Seriousness
Iran has no confidence in the United States and is only willing to negotiate with Washington if the US side is serious. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the statement during a visit to New Delhi, where he attended a meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS countries.
Araghchi also said that all ships may pass through the Strait of Hormuz except those at war with Tehran, but that vessels must coordinate their passage with the Iranian navy. He described the situation in the strategic strait as "very complicated".
Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz to most shipping after war broke out with the US and Israel in February. Around a fifth of the world's oil and gas supplies had previously passed through the route.
Negotiations on a permanent peace settlement remain on hold after both sides rejected the latest proposals last week. Araghchi said Iran wants to maintain the ceasefire but is also prepared to resume fighting.
