Ukraine Lifts Travel Ban on Women in Public Office

The Ukrainian government is lifting all restrictions on foreign travel for women. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that the new rules will also apply to women holding senior state positions, working in local government, state-owned enterprises or the judiciary, according to the Unian news agency.

Previous measures restricted travel for several groups of women in public office, including government ministers, members of parliament, judges and members of the security forces. They were permitted to travel only under strict conditions, such as for official business or to accompany people requiring assistance.

The Ukrainian authorities also noted that women working in the health sector had not been subject to any special restrictions.

The government further stressed that it is illegal to demand military documents from women at border crossings. The decision comes amid ongoing debate over mobilization rules in Ukraine.
