Court Rejects Musk's Lawsuit Against OpenAI

Elon Musk has lost his lawsuit against OpenAI after a federal jury in Oakland, California, unanimously ruled that the company was not legally liable for allegedly abandoning its original mission to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity.

The jury also found that Musk had filed the lawsuit too late. The trial, which began in late April, was widely seen as a significant test case for the future regulation of artificial intelligence and for OpenAI's corporate structure.

Musk accused OpenAI and its Chief Executive, Sam Altman, of prioritizing investor profits over AI safety and the public interest. He also claimed that Microsoft had been aware of the company’s commercial ambitions from the beginning.

OpenAI argued that Musk himself had sought to profit from advances in artificial intelligence and had only initiated the legal dispute years later. Meanwhile, the company is continuing preparations for a potential stock market listing that could value it at up to $1tn.
