The Reuters news agency highlighted Orbán's statement that Hungarians had a choice between pursuing an independent, sovereign policy or “following Brussels' policy.” According to the prime minister, the latter would inevitably lead to “chaos and poverty.”
In his picnic speech, the prime minister commented on developments in world politics, taking stock of the arrival of the new American president, the fall of the French government, and the revival of V4 cooperation. He also pointed to China's growing influence in Asia and Europe's weakness in the eyes of the US.
"Last year, we left many questions unanswered. This year, we have received almost all the answers. Will there be a new American president and a new American policy? Yes. Will there be a new German government? Yes. Will France emerge from its government crisis? No! Can cooperation within the Visegrad Group (V4) be resumed? Yes. Will there be a Russian military victory? Yes. Will Ukraine be divided? Yes. Will the European Union succeed in resolving the fundamental dilemma embodied by the euro? No," summarized the chairman of Fidesz.
Orbán emphasized the importance of a neutral economic policy. The economic situation that has arisen after the Covid pandemic will not change until 2026, so it is necessary to adapt to it, which requires a new economic policy, Orbán said.
In his opinion, Hungary's neutral economic policy should be expressed in Budapest not joining any of the existing economic blocs and being open in all directions.
Division of Ukraine
Orbán stated that Russia has already won the war and that Ukraine will be divided into three parts after the fighting ends: a Russian part, a demilitarized part, and a Ukrainian part.
"I would like to remind everyone that at the beginning of the war, an American president named Joe Biden, whom you may remember, came to Warsaw and declared... Putin must fail,“ Orbán quoted.
According to Orbán, the ‘Americans’ have openly declared that they want ”a different political regime“ in Russia, and that is precisely why the ”current situation“ has arisen.
”The European Union is financing the war, Russia is financing the war as well. They are competing in terms of financing, and at the moment, the Russians are winning this competition. This situation is weakening them, and we are falling apart because of it,“ the Hungarian prime minister continued.
Before the war, according to Orbán, Ukraine had a very clear status as a buffer state, with half of its influence belonging to Moscow and the other half to the West – ”the war has disrupted this balance." Orbán did not go into how the war came about, as he believes this is “a topic for another lecture.”
According to the Hungarian prime minister, the negotiations on security guarantees themselves are de facto a division of Ukraine. "The first step has already been taken, as Western countries have agreed that there is a Russian zone. The only question is whether there will be two, four, five, or six more Russian territories in addition to Crimea.“
According to Orbán, the ”Russian zone“ covers about 20 percent of Ukrainian territory, and the fact that no part of Ukraine would be annexed to Russia ”is no longer up for debate."
What is being discussed, however, is the width of the demilitarized zone separating the area administered by Kyiv from the occupied parts of Ukraine: “Forty, fifty, one hundred, two hundred kilometers? We don't know. But that is already being decided,” Orbán concluded.
“We don't know anything specific about the borders and conditions” of the zone administered by Kiev, the Hungarian prime minister said.
“Russia has won the war”
"After China, the next fact the Americans had to deal with was that Russia had won the war. Without the deployment of hundreds of thousands of soldiers, it is impossible to reverse Russia's victory,“ the prime minister assessed.
According to Orbán, however, no one except Russia intends to send troops to Ukraine, and ”the American strategy also recognizes this fact" as irrefutable.
At the same time, Russia is deepening its cooperation with China, and it will be “impossible in the coming decades” to separate Moscow from Beijing, although, according to Orbán, it will be possible to conclude agreements with China.
In his opinion, China is simultaneously integrating the countries of Southeast Asia into its economy without military intervention.
Orbán called on his camp to mobilize in the interest of a “joint victory,” wrote the website magyarnemzet.hu, recalling that even left-wing analyst Attila Tibor Nagy had acknowledged that Orbán's speech would decide the elections in favor of Fidesz, as TISZY Péter Magyar's chairman had not taken advantage of this great opportunity. In his opinion, the prime minister had delivered a much better speech intellectually.
