After death of Ayatollah: Trump warns of unprecedented force as mutual attacks continue

Israeli forces said they had launched another wave of strikes on Iran on Sunday, as the country grappled with uncertainty after US-led attacks killed its supreme leader and raised fears of wider instability in the Middle East.

Iranian state media confirmed on Sunday that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, had been killed in an air strike, just hours after the United States and Israel had announced his death.

US President Donald Trump said the operation was intended to end decades of threats from Iran and to ensure the country could not develop nuclear weapons, seeking to justify a risky move that appeared to contradict his stated rejection of American involvement in complex foreign conflicts.

‘This is not only justice for the Iranian people, but also for all the great Americans and people from many countries around the world who have been killed or maimed by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty bandits,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social after Khamenei’s body was found.

Experts said that while the deaths of Khamenei and other senior Iranian figures would deal a major blow to the country, they would not necessarily spell the end of Iran’s entrenched clerical rule or the Revolutionary Guard’s influence.
